The American Dream, Life, Liberty, And The Pursuit Of...
The American Dream, ââ¬Å"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness,â⬠is a reason why my parents migrated from Yemen to United States of America in the late 70ââ¬â¢s and early 80ââ¬â¢s. My father was a hard working citizen, who spent little time at home and iced his back and feet when he did; he endured strenuous work before retiring from the railroad. My mother had the difficult duty to raise a boy basketball team and two daughters. My parents have always taught us, that if you want something, you work hard, if you work hard enough, the reward will be well worth it. This childhood lesson has followed me everywhere I go. As a child, I knew that there were many mountains to cross, and a mountain is made up of various hills. During rough times in my community, the uphill climbs lead to many opportunities. I would find the positive by assisting local law enforcement, the D.A.R.E. Program, with projects such as picking up trash or painting over vandalism at schools, parks, and neighborhoods. I have always been told that my maturity has always excelled past my age. As I became more of an adult, I began establishing leadership traits. I became heavily involved in the Special Olympics Club, becoming the Vice President my freshman year in High School. As my leadership skills began to grow, I found myself more involved in the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and during my senior year I achieved the highest rank, Cadet Commander, mentoring and leading over 300 cadets. Luther King Essay Example For Students
Luther King Essay In the video ââ¬Å"The Good Fight,â⬠Americans have taken into their hands the good life of the Spanish people in fighting Fascism. Though they are before Martin Luther Kingââ¬â¢s time, they are taking into action ââ¬Å"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. â⬠(King, ââ¬Å"Letters from Birmingham Jailâ⬠) These men fighting in the Spanish Civil War, on both the Republicans and the Fascist side, are risking taking someoneââ¬â¢s life to achieve their good life. It is evident that in war that the definition of what is right and wrong and good and evil may be very different by both sides. In war there is always a winner and a loser and never a tie, so if you disregard which side you root for and you just focus on the fact of people achieving the good life, someone always loses the chances of achieving their good life. Even if war makes political changes that benefit the quality of life as a whole, there will always be a few individuals not happy with the situation they are placed. In the 1960s, Martin Luther King Jr. and all other colored people were living in a situation where they were not happy. Dr. King approached seeking a good life by fighting for his human rights in a non-violent way. Though Dr. King did it in the nicest way possible, technically he declared and waged war on racists and all those who discriminate against colored people. His good life entailed equal rights for whites and blacks, but the good life of his enemies entailed ââ¬Å"separate but equalâ⬠utilities for whites and colored. Dr. King was sick of inequality amongst African Americans and wanted to have the same opportunities to achieve a good life as those who were white. While many of the whites were living their good life in their own little ââ¬Å"white world,â⬠the colored were not allowed to go to the same school, or eat at a the same restaurant and even not allowing them to drink out of the same drinking fountain. This war still has many battles being fought but they main battle has been won. Even though Martin Luther King himself never got to see the end of his non-violent war, he eventually achieved the good life for his people. His achievement meant that those radical racists do not live their good life in which whites are the ââ¬Å"supremeâ⬠race. Dr. Kingââ¬â¢s fight was much less selfish than Siddartha abandoning everyone who ever loved him or the soldiers killing fellow humans, but to those that Martin Luther King was fighting, he was being very selfish in thinking that blacks should have equal rights. Life is full of choices and some of these choices are bound to hurt some people in our lives. We are constantly told to live life to the fullest and my personal favorite quote ââ¬Å"live life passionately. â⬠But when this passion hurts others is it worth living life passionately? Maybe we have to decide who can achieve the good life in the survival of the fittest kind of way. Some people may believe that when in search of the good life you have to be selfish, and if you are just selfish enough you can get where you want to go, but is this selfish move worth the cost? We could compromise our dreams to help others achieve the good life, or maybe if we put our selfish human nature aside we can work together to help everyone get to their good life. Everyone is different and because of this everyone will always have different opinions and stands on things, but if we all worked together to help each other to achieve our good lives this game we play called life will have far more winners than losers. .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .postImageUrl , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:hover , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:visited , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:active { border:0!important; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:active , .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038 .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub6dfa0453fe60987721b3b53ccc65038:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Ballads Of Today EssayWorks Cited The Good Fight (V of XII).
